An operational-like COSMO-I2 experimental chain has been set up in order to compare which configuration of the model gives best results in the analysis production: a free model chain, an "official assimilation package" one and an "unofficial assimilation", in which the coupling between the description of the soil state and the 2 metres observations is turned on. The verification of such chains is under progress. I spend a period in Reading ath the ECMWF to attend one of their numerical weather prediction courses, mainly focused on the production and the interpretation of the probabilistic forecasts. In parallel to my main research topic, I went on doing some climate studies, focused in and attempt to dinamically downscale the a global climate simulation to the Po Valley and the Alpine area by using the meteorological model WRF. At the moment the results that I got are not good, but the future prospectives of this area are very broad and promising, both in the description of the actual climate and in an attempt to study on our local area of interest the effects of climate change.
